Tuesday 12/1 Meeting

On Tuesday, we talked with an engineer about our innovative solution. We got a lot of technical information, and yes, some of it went over our heads! :D Then, our team compiled all of that stuff and tried to make a schematic of our inner workings of EVAR Safe. We didn't finish that, but we also were looking up prices of all of the components of the transmitter and receiver, and it looks like the EVAR Safe Receiver might actually be around $20! On Wednesday, we got together again as an optional meeting and put more info in our presentation. That got done, now we just need to memorize all of it!

Aaron, getting no sleep doin' all this Lego research... :)

Flint State-Level Tourney

We had plenty of fun at the Regional Tourney! (I think you can tell from previous posts) But the Lego Fever is still not over! We have 6 meetings until the State Tourney in Flint. We hope to tweak our project and robot. I think just if everyone spends their time efficiently, we can do more in 3 weeks than the whole rest of the season! (major sarcasm :D)

Aaron, hoping we do well at State...

Waking up for Tourney!

Good Morning! We're all probably waking up to get ready for the Tourney. The Countdown Clock currently says about 3 hours to the opening ceremony! Hope to see everyone there!

Aaron, Tired but a little exited now...

Tuesday 11/17 meeting

Yesterday, we worked on our robot and skit. Before the meeting, Jarren and Calvin worked on trying a different attachment to get the loops in the corner, but it wouldn't work. :( During our meeting, we were thinking of ideas to complete that mission. Jarren and Calvin are going to try some new ideas today (Wednesday). Then, towards the end of the meeting, we changed out skit even more and practiced running it through. We figured out that we all need more practice. :\ I'm sure it'll get done though! :)

Just 1 more meeting left to Regionals!

Aaron, Doesn't have any time on his hands to complete what needs to get done. :'{

Community Presentation #2

Our 2nd Community Presentation went well! The Sharks (Team 1273, a rookie team of Legos in Paradise) and us presented our skits and robot runs. We took more surveys from our visitors at the end.

Aaron, doing FLL work 24/7 :)

Grandville Regional Tourney

Yes, we had a lot of fun yesterday! But, the Lego fever is not over! We have 4 more meetings (Yes, Just 4!), then we'll be at our next Tournament! That is the Regional Tourney, which is an important one as it's on the trail to the Official State Tourney. I think we can make room for tweaking and practice in the next meetings, hopefully it's possible.

Aaron, Hoping we'll get a lot done in the next 4 meetings. :\

Figuring out what NXT software version to use

We have been trying to make a decision on what NXT-G software version to use. Some of us want to use 1.1 and others want to use 2.0. We haven't made our decision yet, but we will at our next meeting.
My conclusion:
  • Pros to 1.1:
    • Almost everyone has it
    • Everyone is familiar with it
    • It's cheap (or was, they don't sell any Retail NXT-G software separately anymore)
  • Cons to 1.1:
    • None
  • Pros to 2.0:
    • It makes the smallest programs of them all
  • Cons to 2.0:
    • It's sort of glitchy since it was a total remake of the software
    • Along with that, we might get into a glitch of the program in middle of the season and have to use 1.1
    • Some people on our team (including me) don't know of the technical differences of 2.0 and that will cost extra time out of the day (actually more than 1 day)
    • Some of us (including me) aren't interested in 2.0 at all and don't want to have anything to do with it.

So I think this whole 2.0 thing is overstated and really isn't much better if it's better at all. NXT 2.0 is basically out there to get people to buy more stuff.

Fair winds, Aaron (Arr, "Talk Like A Pirate Day" on September 19th for all ye pirate mateys)
